A day at the range

Not every small town police force has their own "diet SWAT team". Not every one of those who do, are willing to let you go shoot their cool guns.

AR15's - single shot.

My performance: The top grouping were from the AR15 (@~50'). I couldn't even see the back sight, and was pretty certain I'd missed the target most times. The middle grouping were from their Glock 22 .40 cal standard sidearms (@~15'). The Sergeant said I was a better shot than he was. The bottom grouping was from one of their MP-5 SMGs (@~15'), firing 9mm, 10 rds single shot (fairly well grouped on the black part of the target), 20 rds full auto (down and to the left, cutting through the wood).

I think I actually shot better than everyone there except the rugged old ex-military guy, and the lawyer lady. Everybody shot better than the little wisp of a thing reporter girl who was covering the event for the local newspaper. They had to keep a hand between her shoulder blades as she fired on full auto to keep her from flying back and tipping over.

And here are two of the town's finest, doing their quarterly qualifying - this drill one testing their close quarters skills. (Yes, they are drawing and holding their guns like we'd hold a can of soda - firing unaimed.)

Comments:
Now I'm jealous. That sounds like fun!
