I am an urbane, indifferent, condescending, disingenuous "godlike sophisticate"
This occurred after an unsucessful attempt to show me why I should be worried about the various differing accounts of Joseph Smith's first vision. Dood is trying to explain to another church critic why it is so frustrating dealing with mormons.
what happens is that they ignore the gordian knot of controversial and confusing teachings and assume an attitude of urbane indifference and condescension in the hope of duping people into thinking that they, the Mormons, have every reason to be confident and that this is all just too parochial to be taken seriously by these godlike sophisticates.
One can hardly blame them since their own church imbues them with this attitude of condescension and disingenuous dismissiveness. The Mormon Church is like a man who is determined he knows the way even though he is increasingly lost and is too stubborn and proud to take the sound advice of his wife, stop and ask someone. Just as he has no interest in getting directions so they have no real interest in getting to the bottom of things because they already 'know' and won't be told otherwise.
